Climate
Throughout the state of South Dakota the use of meth continues to affect the
rural areas, as well as the urban areas. Over the past year, the use and
demand for meth has increased. Public efforts are underway by law enforcement,
politicians, social service agencies and the media to further educate the
public as to the dangers of methamphetamine use and abuse. Additionally,
marijuana is readily available in all areas of South Dakota.
- Cocaine
Cocaine is readily obtainable throughout all parts of South Dakota.
Crack Cocaine is increasing in availability in eastern South Dakota, but
abuse is still limited in western sections of South Dakota.
- Heroin
Typically, heroin is available only in personal use quantities in South Dakota.
- Meth
The availability of Mexican methamphetamine continues to increase throughout
South Dakota. Small labs have increased steadily over the last few years.
Production capabilities of these small labs are usually less than one ounce.
- Club Drugs
Ecstasy in eastern South Dakota is limited but appears to be increasing. Ecstasy
is more readily available in western parts of South Dakota, though the amount
of Rave parties remains consistent.
- Marijuana
Marijuana is readily available throughout South Dakota. Large quantities of
marijuana are transported into the state from the southwest border of the
U.S.
