The greatest drug threat in New Mexico is the transshipment of drugs and drug
proceeds by Mexican drug organizations. These organizations in New Mexico
are able to distribute multi-kilogram quantities of various types of drugs
locally and regionally.
- Cocaine
The shipping of cocaine through New Mexico is increasing at an alarming
rate. Routinely, multiple kilogram quantities are seized from commercial
trucks, public transportation and private vehicles. Acquisition of crack
cocaine is readily available throughout New Mexico, but is most prevalent
in urban areas.
- Heroin
The availability of heroin in New Mexico has shown a steady increase over the
past five years. The majority of heroin seized in New Mexico is brown or
black tar heroin.
- Meth
Meth is available in New Mexico in multiple kilogram quantities. Meth located
in New Mexico generally originates in Mexico, but arrives in New Mexico from
distributors in Los Angeles and Phoenix.
- Club Drugs
In New Mexico MDMA (Ecstasy), Ketamine, LSD, and GHB are obtainable, primarily
in Albuquerque and Santa Fe. Raves are held routinely in the area, often
in remote locations on US Forest Service lands.
- Marijuana
Marijuana is the most prevalent drug in New Mexico. Seizures of marijuana range
from a few kilograms to ton quantities.
